I don’t agree, Natalia. It may have that effect in the relatively short time, but as OpenID begins to see ever more uptake, I think that serious spammers, the ones writing bots etc, will build their own OpenID servers that don’t require login and simply authenticate anyone who asks.

Posted to: Phishing Fools?

That’s an interesting method, Jim. I still just do all mine manually. It doesn’t take a long time to check folks out. And I don’t get enough adds that I really need to automate it.

I do love 1000monkeys too. I think Andrew Tetlaw built that. He’s a devilishly clever fellow!

Posted to: 74 Twitter Adds: A Breakdown

I’ve taken to using a script to save a list of followers so I can see who’s added me, and then doing a “following:updates” ratio. Anyone who just listens (total lurker) with little or nothing to say gets blocked. Also, anyone with no bio, or other anonymity gets blocked.

On the other hand, I started following 1000monkeys which is like a fun-house mirror bot.

If the only thing was to provide an ID in the comment section then a lot of spammers would simple give up.

Posted to: Phishing Fools?

Hey there,

Just wanted to say you guys turned what I thought would be a massively boring session into one that really rocked. Whilst, sure, you didn’t sway me towards using IE8 all that much, you definetly taught me a thing or two about web standards and making my websites much better, both from a development pov and a design one.

Out of all of the sessions that day, yours made the biggest impression on me, and not just because it was in a platform I could understand, but also because you both presented it in a forward, honest method.

So thanks for the awesome session!

Regards,

This kind of stuff all looks so cool. Lego has been doing this kind of stuff for ages with Robolab. You can start by making apps visually in Robolab but there’s also a Java API that hooks into everything, the robots have engines, different kinds of sensors, etc. It would be a great thing to give young children but for the software programmer, it’s extremely cool to see physical results of your code.
